Andorra

The Tour de France has reminded me about the existence of Andorra, which I have thought as of a strange place since tourism posters in 2005 alerted me to its existence.

It is the Delaware of Western Europe (no taxes, tiny). It declared war on Imperial Germany in WWI, but stayed in an “official state of belligerency” until 1957 because it wasn’t included in the Versailles Peace Treaty.

It’s a principality, and the president of France and the Bishop of Urgell, in Catalonia, Spain, are Andorra’s co-princes. (Prince Sarkozy, Princess Carla Bruni?) Which brings us to the word “duumvirate,” which makes me try to come up with words with double u’s, other than vaccuum.
